Dave would be tonight's fastest qualifier with a 15.94 this would mark his second pole of the season.
The race start would set the pace for an interesting evening. Twenty one cars would start the event, which was filled with cautions and two red flags.
Dave drove a great race, one of his best of the season. He could and should have been wrecked a couple of times, but he saved the car. He is a conscious driver and thinks about the car and his competitors before making moves, more than I can say for some drivers. Especially for those who have gotten into him a few times this year.
The pace truck pulled off pit road, the green flag waved and right from the start, there would be an incident that could have wrecked the entire field. Dave checked up to keep from running over a competitor and lost 2 positions. A couple laps later he was hit hard in the left rear corner and his car would be jacked up on the back straight-a-way and turned sideways. The car never handled the same after that; he probably lost his tires in the slide. He would finish the first race in 7th place and went on to finish the second race in 8th.
I'm glad competitors are remembered for the way they drive and handle situations on the track. One driver who was racing behind Dave and witnessed a couple of tonight's events came up to him after the race and said, "you should get an award for the amount of times you had to save your car tonight".
I think that just about sums up this season!
