Old Dominion Speedway - NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
Mini Modified 8-29-2009

Dave would start tonight’s event on the outside pole after qualifying first with a time of 17.38 and rounded out the night with a second place finish.

The #59 driven by Keith Riley would maintain the lead for seventeen laps before the #11 driven by Paul Green and the # 34 driven by Dave Daniels would squeak by him too commence their bid for the championship.

Both drivers drove fast and furious with Dave challenging Paul a couple of times for the lead. Paul would manage to hold on until the end, finishing first, with Dave finishing in a strong second. Both drivers were overheard saying that tonight’s race was the hardest race of the season!

For those of you wondering why Dave said the following during his interview, "I might have won this race but I was not privileged to get a new tire." This was his way of taking a good natured jab at his father for not purchasing a tire for tonight’s events. After today’s qualifying, the Mini Mod drivers were allowed to purchase one tire for tonight’s race. Mike felt Dave did not need the tire because he won the pole. Dave, like most drivers, wanted the tire and was disappointed in his father for not purchasing it. As it turned out, the tire had no bearing to tonight’s event. The crew chief was right again, that's why they get paid the BIG bucks! Ha Ha Ha

In Mini Modifieds, Paul Green grabbed his sixth win of the season. Green, who started sixth, passed Keith Riley for the lead in lap 17. Green then held off hard-charging Dave Daniels for the remainder of the race.

"I had to really work for this one," Green said. "Dave was really coming."

Daniels, who started second, finished second and collected his 12th top five of the season. "It was a good points night," he said.

Riley was third, Bobby Able fourth and Nick Johnston fifth.
