The most anticipated race of the year!
Joe Gibbs Youth For Tomorrow Benefit Event
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series with appearances by
Sterling Marlin, Mike Skinner, Ron Hornaday, Andy Lally, Max Papis, Johnny Benson, and Curtis Markham.

The racing season at Old Dominion Speedway has heated up in more ways than one!
A severe heat alert blanketed the area which made racing conditions unbearable!
With heat index temps ranging from, 115 to 120 everyone scrambled to find ways too stay cool.

Dave would be the fastest car in the first practice with a time of 16.01. Today's practice sections would be broken up into two classes. There would be a class (A) and a class (B). Dave would practice in segment (A) and enjoyed running with Max Papis, Mike Skinner, Sterling Marlin, Johnny Benson, Andy Lally, Curtis Markham and Ron Honaday. After practice, the speedway offered the NASCAR Pro's, Redskin members and Late Model drivers a chance to sit down and share a meal together, while signing autographs for fans. The signing tent was decorated in checkered flags and was very welcoming to all who entered.

Drivers would be introduced to the crowd driven around in Dodge trucks based on today's qualifying times. Dave would share a truck with his favorite driver; Ron Hornaday.

Originally tonight's 150 lap race was to be run straight through without any breaks. Due to heat, the track elected to split the race so that drivers could cool off and make minor changes to their cars.

The big event had finally arrived and drivers would take the green flag for this much anticipated race. Dave would start in the 11th position behind #51 Max Papis. He then raced car #17 driven by Ron Hornaday door handle to door handle for three laps. Dave would catch-up with Papis, whose car was slowing on the track, which caused Dave to lose several positions before getting around him. On lap 5 the caution would wave for an incident with car #13 driven by Sterling Marlin and car #51 driven by Max Papis. Unfortunately car #18 would be collected in the wreck. When racing resumed, Dave would run several laps with car #81 driven by Mike Skinner. The second caution of the night waved due to an incident in turn 4 involving the #68 and #31 driven by Andy Lally. Once again, racing would resume on the track until lap 46 when the caution waved for the third time due to an incident between the #29 driven by Curtis Markham and #59 driven by Johnny Benson. The two cars collided on the back straight-a-way. Dave, with a heads up move, narrowly escaped the incident. Racing would resume on lap 50 where Dave would pass the #81 driven by Mike Skinner and #50 on the outside coming out of turn two. This placed the #34 driven by Dave Daniels in the 7th place, right behind car #4, where he would finish out the first 75 lap segment.

The second segment of the Joe Gibbs Youth For Tomorrow Event would bring more excitement and cautions.
On lap 79 the caution flag waved for the 4th time this evening. The #51 driven by Max Papis and car #46 would be involved in an incident. Racing would resume on lap 82 where Dave was still positioned behind the #4. The #68 would pass Dave after a few laps of racing, which now placed him in the 8th position. On lap 104 car #38 would go around bringing out the 5th caution of the evening. Racing would resume on lap 109. Once again the caution would fly on lap 119 for car #39 which brought out the caution for the 6th time. The green flag would drop on lap 121. Dave and the #41 drove an exciting race for many laps before Dave was able to get around him on lap 126. On lap 129 the caution flag would wave for the 7th time due to an incident with car #81 driven by Mike Skinner and car #41. On lap 131 the #68 was forced to park his machine due to overheating. Lap 146 the caution would wave for the 8th time in tonight's event due to an incident with the #41 and car #17 driven by Ron Hornaday. This incident would set the field up for a green, white checkered finish. Dave was still positioned behind the #4, where he would finish the event in 6th place.
