Dave was tonight's
quickest qualifier in the Mini Modified Division.
Determined, competitor
and racer, those are the words that describe my son, Dave Daniels.
Every Saturday, I leave
the pit area and go up to the grandstands to video tape all of
Dave's races. Before the start of tonight's race, I was becoming
increasingly concerned as Dave had not made his way to pit road.
The field was getting ready to pick-up the pace car, and still
no sign of Dave. Finally, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted
him. He fell into the back of the pack and resumed his position
on the track. What I did not know until the end of the race was,
minutes before Dave was too take the green flag, he got extremely
sick and barley made tonight's event. The scorching temps along
with some orange juice probably were the culprits.
Once the Green Flag fell,
Dave quickly made a charge to the front and set his sights on
the #44, trying to get by him for the lead. Dave and Mike ran
nose to tail, with hard charging Pete Green knocking on the door,
until the first caution flag waved on lap 9. It wasn't until lap
13 that Dave finally made the pass for the lead. He led the remainder
of the race, with pressure from car #44, until he took the checkers
for the 5th time this season.
Dave, always being
quick witted, responds to the following during tonight's interview
in victory lane.

Ed Pardue, track announcer- "Dave, you are the immediate
future of Old Dominion Speedway".
Dave - "Is that right?"
Ed Pardue -- That's what we are hearing"
Dave -- "That's news to me. If that's the case, I need to
pick-up my game a little."
The fact of the
matter is, Old Dominion Speedway has some great up and coming
talent.
With that being said, and the announcement of the tracks longevity,
2011 should be an exciting year.

Dave Daniels held off veteran Mike Carte for the final laps, and
took the win for the 5th time in six events in 2010 in the 25
lap Mini Modified event. Daniels took advantage of a slight bobble
that Carte made coming out of turn two, and grabbed the lead late
in the going. Carte tried the cross-over move, but was unable
to make the pass. Daniels would cross the stripe less than a car
length ahead of Carte at the end. Following Daniels and Carte
were Pete Green, Keith Riley, and Nick Johnston.
