Tonight Dave would pick-up his first pole position of the year. His qualifying speed would be 17.69. The track was exceptionally green due to a weeks worth of rain. The field would consist of 10 hungry drivers.
The drivers would come down the back straight-a-way
and take the green flag out of turn four. Dave would hold his
line and start to work his way up the field. He battled his way
into the 3rd spot, where he finished for the evening.
Many readers have become confused as to why the field is inverted and what the term invert means. I will try and explain it to the best of my ability, as to why it is done, I have no clue! My opinion is, the cars should line up the way they qualify, period the end! I am not a big fan of the invert and find that in some cases it allows the possibility of sand-bagging, (a term used, to lay back to start the field towards the front).

Explanation of field inversion used at Old
Dominion Speedway in Virginia.
When you qualify for the pole, you start the race in the fifth
position.
The winner of the previous race automatically starts in the 6th
position.
